It takes little effort to continue your wellness story when you give yourself 5-10 minutes each day for self-care rituals. I’m not talking about makeup or skin care but body and soul food. We hear about “self care”a lot in media and socials and the benefits of it but rarely take action and make it habit or practice. The happy thing is, by adopting a 5-10 minute self-care habit we can witness the gentle and persistent affects that spending even this small piece of time on ourselves each day can have on our overall wellbeing.
Let me explain a bit more. Could you imagine yourself setting a goal and achieving it with ease and without tension? Consider a current goal. Does it seem big, daunting or perhaps overwhelming to you right now? Let me share a secret with you – athletes, performance coaches and so many successful business all experience these feelings and get through it with the following simple framework.
To start I want you to put down the goal. Let it sit quitely, were not going to disturb it again until the end when we will be celebrating achieving it. Now, instead of focussing on the big end goal, look inward at your resources, previous experiences and consider how you make things happen in your everyday life.. Now I want you to look at how you can use these inner tools to create a series of small changes, or new ways of doing something or perhaps even stopping doing something (especially when it is not bringing progress). Write these ideas and steps down, or create a list, or diagram of these ideas. lSo now you have your plan – the process to follow and use daily to take small but consistent steps along the path to your goal. Suddenly scale is reduced, the procrastination that often accompanies these goals diminishes and the overwhelm has pivoted into your voice of common sense and reason. COllectively these steps and your skills and inner guidance helps you to review, tweak and refine the plan or steps to get you to the goal .
Without the angst and struggling to find your way, you afe now engaged in a series of small manageable chunks; progress is happening, your commitment and interest is growing and this daily practice is getting you to the end. You have now witnessed you own ability to takje a problem, break it dwn and process it step towards the goal at the end. Congratulations – now you can celebrate, sing, dance and jump about. Good on you!. The effect of small cumulative activity is profound. It is through this approach that the goal just waits for you to find the gentle path towards it.
Looking at your solutions this way makes getting there so much easier, kinder and possible. Think of the things that resonate with you in your care rituals. This could be a short meditation, some singing, or humming for your vagus nerve, gentle yoga or stretching, brushing you cat or dog or quietly sitting with your eyes closed and breathing for a few minutes. These small gifts can top up your internal energy, reaffirming and aligning your intentions to heal and honour yourself with joy and peace.
I believe in you. You can do this.
