People and plants in harmony

Plant therapy backed by science:  Dr. Benjamin Rush, known as the father of American Psychiatry recognised the healing benefit and “positive effects of working in the garden made” to people experiencing mental illness. The idea of gardens as places of healing remerged during the 1940’s, when plant therapy was introduced as a medical treatment option to help injured soldiers improve muscle condition, coordination and balance, as well as lift mood, hastening recovery goals.

Nature based treatments have benefited women for milllenia. Plants have been processed and applied to relieve menstrual cramps (chamomile), pain (cinnamon), anxiety (dandelion), hot flushes (black cohosh) and sleep (lemon balm) and more. This traditional knowledge has stood the test of time and is now available in convenient pill or liquid forms as modern medical interventions. These herbal remedies complement other treatments and offer women a holitsic approach to their wellbeing.

Social and emotional wellbeing through gardens: Clinical evidence shows how gardening acts to release dopamine the feel-good hormone throughout the body, improving emotions and wellbeing. The care of plants can be meditative, satisfying and stimulating offering both relaxation, achievement and human interaction. The somatic benefit of garden therapy is increasingly recognised as a powerful tool to foster integrated outcomes, community and social connection.
