Can plants really help me grow?

Yes they can. In 18th century Europe, flowers became a codex for lovers or those seeking amour. The violent passions, earnest intents or feelings of love and concern were expressed through the types of bouquets given. A simple bouquet could tell a story of passion and desire or hurt and loss.

That time is gone but the language and soul connection of flowers with people remains. When you think of it, this planet, the microbes, organisms, insects, flowers, in fact all flora and fauna evolved together. We were there too, developing receptors in our minds, senses and souls that allow us to experience the power of the world around us.

It is no mistake that as we evolved, so did the plant kingdom to provide us with the tools to be healthy, strong and thrive. Plants at the most basic level became our food, our fuel and the most valuable medicine to keep us healthy.

In the 21st century this has not changed. Plant properties have been analysed and synthesised and produced at a commercial , large scale rate. At the heart of it though the essence of plants and flowers remains true – they are there as a tool to support us and bring us joy.

For some gardening may not be a skill or possible but the pleasure of smelling a cut lawn, a fresh rose or the scent of fire on the wind in autumn can stir a very powerful and deep response within us. Some smells, quite simply make us feel good and can uplift us.

The neuroscience of our anatomy and the plant kingdom are entwined.
